Q? about Oregon
Hello Everyone! Ok I know this isn't a super active community but I thought I'd give it a shot. My family and I currently live in Texas and have for over a decade. We've moved all over the place California, Europe, Washington State and Lastly Texas... We both agree that we don't like Texas and we truly miss the tall ivy and moss covered tree's and the religious tolerance that the Northwest has to offer... There is one thing though that I am concerned about and that's the prolific pot use. As we do have children one is a teenager and the other is still in elementary school. I do know someone who moved up to Oregon and became a complete pothead and according to her there are vendors/shops what have you all over the place just as easily as you could find a corner pharmacy and people openly walk down the street partaking in it. I mean by the way it has been described to me if you were to be pulled over by a cop rather then ticketing you or jailing you for possession the officer would more likely ask you to share =0 Yes I do understand that there is no such thing as a "drug free" zone or area but by the way it's been described to me it sounds as if this is a marijuana mecca of sorts and that I don't want. So I'm just asking to see if she is relaying it to me as this uber abundant pothead everywhere state simply because she is a pothead and that is what she looks for? or is it more like the Northwest I recall of free thinking, open minded & intellectual.

Thank You to Everyone in advance for answering this post and I am sorry for anyone this might offend as I'm NOT trying to do that I just really don't wish to move myself or my children into a veritable cloud of smoke...

I miss home
I  used to live in Grants Pass, but then I joined the Navy.  I just miss home a lot and am hoping to meet people from the area so that when I go home I may have some one to hang out with.

Cool Oregon Website
A great place to find new fun adventures in Oregon is the 365 Days in Oregon, part of the Travel Oregon website.  I clicked on 6/29 the picture of llamas, and was taken to a website on how you can go on a hike with an accompaning llama.  You can even submit your own photo and event information to the website.

Grants Pass, Oregon
My husband and I have decided to move to Grants Pass, Oregon, and some of the reasons are below:

-we love the outdoors
-want to live in Southern Oregon
-live about an hour from the beach
-live in a small (but not too small) town
-live close to a larger town for more job opportunities (Medford, 20 min. drive apparently)

What do you think of Grants Pass?

It's OK to send both negative and positive aspects of the town.

We'll be in Oregon in August.  Saying I'm excited is an extreme understatement!

cool Oregon website
365 Extraordinary Days in Oregon is a both a cool photography and travel website of Oregon that I found while surfing the net not too long ago.  It made me want to check out my current state of Pennsylvania's tourism site, which I've already found a ton of new things to do in PA before I move to Oregon.

Moving to Oregon

My husband and I are planning to move to Oregon summer or fall 2009, and are flying out for a week in August 2008 for research (and R&R).  We currently live in Pennslyvania, so this is a big move for us.  We're still dabbling in research of which towns to definitely visit in August to help decide where we should move to in Oregon.

For anyone interested in helping us out:
What towns do you like the most in Oregon?  We're definitely looking to live on the Oregon Coast - up to an hour or an hour-and-a-half driving distance inland from the ocean.  Husband is leaning toward Southern Oregon, but I'm still open to northern, central, or southern parts of the state.

Thanks for any help you can provide.  :)

Jackson County libraries are closed, officially and indefinitely.

The largest library closure in the history of our nation. Fifteen libraries, almost all of them remodeled or rebuilt entirely in the last seven years. This pains me.
They're trying to get emergency federal funding now that the libraries are closed, but Bush is threatening to veto it because it's part of an appropriations bill that sets a timetable for Iraq.

If you're from the Jackson County area, vote yes on the special election next month for emergency funds for the libraries. By law we need 50% voter turnout as well as a majority of the votes, so cut the apathy. The campaign is online here: http://www.sols-yes.org/

Knock Knock
Hey fellow Southern Oregonians! I'm not sure how happening this community is, but from the looks of it not very. Still, I thought I would just say a quick hello.

My name is Sheena and I'm in Klamath Falls. I just recently turned the big two-one and I am always open to meeting new friends. I am heavily into the local theatre here and I often perform in shows. I'll let you know when the next one is going to be and hopefully we'll have some new fans!

Inaugural Post
Um... So... Hi. :)
Thought I'd put a post out here for the few members I've managed to track down so far. Where is everyone from?
I live near Klamath Falls, in a riverfront log cabin (consequently for sale)... I travel to Medford/Ashland fairly often, though life is currently buried with house sale stuff, summer activities, and outdoor living. :)

Tell me all a little about yourselves!
